The Scott Summers Memorial 5K Saturday, September 14th, 2013
at Route 66 Park, Lake Overholser, Oklahoma City

The Scott Summers Memorial 5K will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. The CFF funds more cystic fibrosis research than any other organization and nearly every CF drug available today was made possible because of Foundation support.

The focus of the CFF is to:
Support the development of new drugs to fight the disease
Improve the quality of life for those with CF
Ultimately find a cure for cystic fibrosis

Our Inspiration . . .

Our friend Scott Summers was a long-time Stillwater resident and a 1983 graduate of Oklahoma State University. He was an outstanding high school athlete at C.E. Donart in Stillwater and is remembered as "one of the fastest runners you ever saw." Among his many crowning achievements was winning the Best Legs contest his senior year!

Scott lost his battle with cystic fibrosis on December 3, 2011
but he fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished the race in style. His determination to excel despite many obstacles truly serves as an inspiration to us all.

Volunteer Roll Call!

An event like this needs lots of help! If you don't run but want to be there to help out, here's what we need:

  • Packet Stuffers - We'll need volunteers to stuff packets with shirts and goodies! This will be in OKC several days before the race, details to be determined.

  • Packet Handout - On race day you'll arive at 6:30 to help distribute packets and handle day-of-race registrants.

  • Parking Control - On race day you'll help with parking. This will be needed in shifts from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

  • Water Stationeers - On race day you'll help man the water stations along the race route.

  • Race Route Traffic Control - The race will be on the lake road which will be closed to traffic, but we still need people to help manage the route.

  • Encouragers - The racers will need plenty of encouragement so come line the race route and cheer them on!

  • Set up - If you're an overacheiver this one's for you! We'll need you at the race site super early to help set up.....EVERYTHING!

  • Clean-up - Self-explanatory....not a glamorous job but quite needed and appreciated!
If you are interested, please email me with your name, number, and how you want to help. I will add you to the list and keep you posted with updates. Thank You!
